The Cranston Fire Department's mission is to save lives and protect property. The members of the Cranston Fire Department are dedicated to the preservation of life and property from fire or other disaster, the prevention, suppression and investigation of fires, the provision of emergency medical services and the removal of all persons from danger whatever the cause. We operate six fire stations that respond to over 13,000 emergency calls each year.

The Cranston Fire Department also provides Fire Prevention activities which include fire safety code compliance, plan review, fire safety education and fire investigation.

Support staff also assists in our mission to save lives and property. Support services include the Fire Alarm Division and the Maintenance Division. The Fire Alarm Division maintains communications from the point of alarm to the dispatch center as well as, maintaining our city wide computer network, telephone system, and maintaining traffic control systems throughout the City. The Maintenance Division is responsible for the repairs and preventive maintenance on our fleet of vehicles and small power tools. A clerical staff of three assists all administrative officers in their duties.

In the area of Emergency Medical Services, Cranston was a leader in the development of the metropolitan rescue service and remains so today. Our emergency medical technicians may be relied on to respond quickly to any kind of life-threatening incident. They have touched the lives, directly or indirectly, of thousands. The Cranston Fire Department also operates a hazardous material response team. The members of this team undergo specialized training to effectively mitigate a Hazmat emergency. Our Hazmat team is equipped with the latest equipment to safely handle the hazards in our community and transportation routes.

The Fire Department also manages the Emergency Management Agency. Activities include: emergency planning, operating shelters, planning evacuation routes and managing the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). Please contact the Fire Chief or EMS Director for further information.

From providing and installing smoke detectors for the elderly and the physically challenged to collecting for "Jerry's Kids," to coaching and sponsoring youth sports teams, the firefighters are always working to make the City of Cranston a safe and comfortable place.
