SALARY: The base salary range is $53,065 - $81,361.05. Starting salary shall be at the lower rate.
DUTIES: Under the direct supervision of a Lieutenant or Captain, combats, extinguishes and prevents fires; operates and maintains Fire Department equipment, apparatus and quarters; works on a rotating shift basis; does related work as directed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- At time of application, must have graduated from an accredited high school or received an equivalency diploma (G.E.D.) from a recognized authority.
- By date of written examination (6/4/2022) must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT)
1. Candidates who apply by the closing date of May 13, 2022, and receive a passing score to the City of Stamford Firefighter Examination No. 22-13, will have the opportunity so submit a CPAT certifications dated June 1, 2020 – December 31, 2022.
2. To be placed on the eligibility list, candidates must have a CPAT by the date a certification for appointment list is issued. If you have a CPAT dated 6/1/2020 to present, please upload it with your application materials.
3. It will be the responsibility of the candidate(s) to maintain communication with the City of Stamford Human Resources Department on the status of their CPAT certification.
4. Candidates who do not earn a certified CPAT by December 31, 2022, will not be placed on the eligibility list and must notify the City of Stamford, Human Resources Department.
EXAMINATION: There will be an examination; which will consist of the following components:
- Reading Exam Component
- Written Exam Component
- Structured Oral Exercise Component
A nonrefundable $35.00 examination fee is required upon application for the exam. Payment can be made by debit or credit cards through the recruitment site.
STAMFORD RESIDENCY AND VOLUNTEER CREDIT: Five (5) points will be added to the passing exam score of those candidates who attest and provide irrefutable proof of their residency in the City of Stamford, Connecticut for a period of at least twelve (12) months prior to the examination date of 6/4/2022. Three (3) points will be added to the passing exam score for qualified candidate who provide irrefutable proof and attest to active Stamford Volunteer Firefighter Service. See the recruitment packet for information and required documents.
VETERANS’ CREDIT: Refer to Item 3 of 11 on the “Announcements General Conditions” form for eligibility requirements.
FILING REQUIREMENTS: A completed “City of Stamford Application for Examination or Employment” and “Application Supplement 22-13” and all pertinent information such as DD-214, residency and volunteer documents must be uploaded and submitted by 11:59 p.m. on 5/13/2022 through FirefighterApp at www.firefighterapp.com to be considered eligible for purposes of this examination. A resume and/or other correspondence will not be considered as equivalent to an application.
