A Direct-Hire Authority (DHA) is an appointing (hiring) authority that the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) can give to Federal agencies for filling vacancies when a critical hiring need or severe shortage of candidates exists. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Police Officers under Direct Hire Authority for Shortage Category/Critical Need to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

FIREFIGHTER
FireFighter/EMT Cardiac/Paramedic (42 hour work week)
Schedule - 24 Hours on duty - 24 Hours off duty - 24 Hours on duty - 5 days off
Firefighter/EMT Cardiac $63,080 - $65,080 (Annually)
Firefighter/Paramedic $64,120 - $66,120 (Annually)
Perform skilled firefighting work in combating, extinguishing, and preventing fires; in rendering medical assistance at medical and other emergency scenes; and in operating and maintaining Fire Department equipment, apparatus, and work environment.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO APPLY:
- Must be at least 18 years of age by Monday, April 8, 2024
- Must possess and furnish a copy of valid driver’s license.
- Must possess a High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
- Successful completion of the Rhode Island Association of Fire Chiefs Physical Performance Assessment within the last 12 calendar months.
- EMT - Basic to apply, Must be a licensed Rhode Island Emergency Medical Technician CARDIAC or Paramedic Certification at time of job offer.
- Paramedic Preferred (worth 2 points on exam)
- NFPA 1001 level 1 and level 2 Preferred (worth 2 points on exam score for both)
Successful completion of RI Fire Chiefs Written Exam within 12 calendar months of appointment.
