Position: Full-Time Fire/Rescue Dispatcher
The Hopkins Hill Fire District is accepting applications for the position of Full-Time Fire/Rescue Dispatcher.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Possess a high school diploma or GED
- Be a United States citizen
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in stressful situations
Job Responsibilities
The Fire/Rescue Dispatcher is responsible for receiving, prioritizing, and dispatching emergency and non-emergency calls for fire and emergency medical services using a variety of communication methods and equipment. Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Operating radios, telephones, CAD systems, and other telecommunications equipment
- Accurately documenting calls and maintaining records
- Performing related clerical and administrative tasks
- Remaining calm, professional, and focused during emergency situations
Preferred Qualifications
- Rhode Island–licensed Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
- Prior public safety or emergency communications dispatch experience
- Ability to type accurately at a reasonable speed (typically 20 words per minute or greater)
Work Schedule Requirements
This position requires availability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Employees may be required to work mandatory overtime during emergencies or other operational needs, in accordance with applicable laws, policies, and collective bargaining agreements.
Physical & Sensory Requirements
Candidates must possess the visual, auditory, and verbal abilities necessary to operate communications equipment, receive and transmit information accurately, and perform essential job functions, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Compensation & Benefits
- Starting Salary: $51,700.00 per year
- Benefits: Comprehensive municipal benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plan participation, and paid leave, as provided by the Fire District
Conditions of Employment
Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of all required interviews, background investigations, and reference checks.
