Looking to hire up to 12 firefighters over the course of the next year.

Mission Statement
The mission of the Johnston Fire Department is to provide protection of life, property, and the environment from the effects of fires, medical emergencies, and hazards. We engage the community in our mission through progressive community outreach. We will maintain a constant state of readiness to respond to all requests for services through training, maintenance of equipment, and a desire to serve our community.
About Us
The Town of Johnston covers 24.4 square miles and is home to approximately 30,000 residents. Johnston is a suburban community with a mix of residential, industrial and commercial use. Johnston is home to large corporations such as Citizens Bank, FM Global, Amazon along with many retail stores. Johnston Fire Department responds to 8,500 calls for service each year.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS TO APPLY
- Must be minimum age of 18
- Proof of successfully passing the Rhode Island Fire Chiefs Written Exam
- Proof of successfully passing the Rhode Island Fire Chiefs Physical Performance Assessment within the past year
- Possess a valid Rhode Island EMT Basic license or higher. (Must remain valid throughout the application process).
- Possess a valid Basic Life Support CPR Certification. Must remain valid throughout the process.
- Possess a valid and active drivers license. Must remain valid throughout the process.
- Possess a high school diploma or GED certificate
- US Citizen or US-INS qualified for employment
APPLICATION DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED
A PHOTOCOPY OF THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTATION MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH YOUR APPLICATION
- Birth Certificate or US Passport or Naturalization Papers.
- Active and valid drivers license
- Active and valid EMT-Basic License or higher
- Current Rhode Island Fire Chiefs Written Exam Test Certificate issued by the RI Fire Chiefs Association.
- Current Rhode Island Fire Chiefs PPE Testing Certificate Issued by the RI Fire Chiefs Association.
- High School Diploma or GED Certificate
ADDITIONAL MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS DUE UPON CONDITIONAL OFFER OF EMPLOYMENT
- Successful Completion of a federal and state background check (Pre-Employment)
- Successful completion of a medical exam (Pre-Employment)
- Successful completion of drug screening (Pre-Employment)
- Successful completion of psychological evaluation (Pre-Employment)
- Successful Completion of the RI State Fire Academy FF I and FF II (Post-Employment)
- Successful completion of EMT Cardiac or higher (within the first year of employment)
Salary and Benefits
- Firefighter/ EMT Salary: $69,345-$76,089
