Mansfield - Firefighter/Paramedic

We are a fully cross trained department. Every firefighter is trained in EMS, and the majority are licensed paramedics. This allows us to deliver advanced life support care on nearly every call, not just from an ambulance.

We operate in a high demand environment. The department responds to more than 4,000 incidents each year, with a large percentage of calls occurring at the same time. This gives our personnel real experience managing complex, overlapping incidents.

We serve a unique response area. Our coverage includes a major concert venue, large scale regional events, industrial facilities, interstate highways, rail service, and an airport. This creates a wide range of call types that you will not see in many departments.

We focus on real world operations. Our training reflects the calls we actually run. Members are expected to be hands on, engaged, and ready to perform from day one.

We invest in progressive programs. The department is actively expanding services such as community EMS and a regional field blood transfusion capability to improve patient outcomes in critical emergencies.

We value professionalism and accountability. Members are held to a high standard and are expected to take ownership of their role in the organization.

We are part of a strong regional system. We work closely with surrounding departments through mutual aid, giving our members exposure to larger incidents and regional operations.

• Summer details at the Xfinity Center, which is a 19,900 seat venue located in Mansfield
• Also eligible to work details at the neighboring Gillette Stadium

Position Summary

The Paramedic/Firefighter performs fire suppression, emergency medical care, rescue operations, and related duties to protect life, property, and the environment. Personnel operate as part of a team responding to a wide range of emergency and non emergency incidents. This position requires sound judgment, strong technical skills, and the ability to perform under stressful conditions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Emergency Response
  • Respond to fire, medical, rescue, and hazardous condition incidents
  • Provide advanced life support care in accordance with state protocols and medical direction
  • Perform fire suppression activities including hose operations, ventilation, search, and overhaul
  • Conduct patient assessment, treatment, and transport
  • Operate as part of a coordinated incident command structure
• Fire and Life Safety
  • Participate in fire prevention inspections and code enforcement activities
  • Assist with public education programs and community outreach
  • Conduct pre incident planning and building familiarization
• Training and Readiness
  • Participate in daily training, drills, and continuing education
  • Maintain certifications and clinical competencies
  • Perform routine apparatus and equipment checks
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained in a state of readiness
• Station and Administrative Duties
  • Maintain fire stations, apparatus, and equipment
  • Complete required reports and documentation including electronic patient care reports
  • Participate in department programs, committees, and initiatives

Testing Requirements/Hiring Process

• Massachusetts Firefighter PAT and must pass the Mass Fire Academy
• Interview with committee and then with chief is selected for second round
