About

Founded in 1934 the Oakland Mapleville Fire District is located at 46 Oakland School St., Oakland, RI. in the Town of Burrillville, which is in the northwestern portion of the State of Rhode Island, where the states of Rhode Island, Connecticut and Massachusetts converge. It is chartered by the State of Rhode Island to provide fire protection and emergency medical services. It encompasses an area of approximately thirteen square miles with a resident population of approximately 4,400 according to 2010 census data. The Oakland Mapleville Fire District provides services to the residents of the Fire District and neighboring communities in the Tri-State Area.

The fire station receives no funds from the Town of Burrillville or the State of Rhode Island. All expenses are paid by the Fire Tax, third party rescue billing, various grants and donations. The Oakland Mapleville Fire District Board oversees the operations.

The Fire District currently operates the following equipment: 2 ALS rescues, 4 engines, 1 forestry unit, 1 mobile air supply unit, and 3 utility vehicles.

The Fire District contains a variety of potential occupancies that include: single family housing, multiple family housing, agriculture, commercial, light and heavy industrial, houses of worship, places of assembly, petroleum storage facilities.

The Fire District protects the following Critical Infrastructure in the Town of Burrillville: Public Sewer Treatment Facility, Town Public Safety Communications Center, and Burrillville Middle School. We also protect a significant portion of Route 102, which is the major connector route between Route 146 and Route 44, thus facilitating transportation of material from Providence to Connecticut. Countless trucks utilize this route carrying unknown quantities of hazardous materials on a daily basis.

The department is staffed by two Per Diem Firefighters 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This Per Diem force is augmented by volunteer Firefighter /EMT’s as needed.
