Members must be team players, willing to adapt, have a positive attitude, and a commitment to safety. Members are expected to act professionally in line with our values and our code of conduct both on and off duty.
Red Lodge Fire Rescue is an essential part of our community and we pride ourselves on the diversity of our membership. Members must respect each other and the strengths and weaknesses we each bring. Our culture is deliberate and we expect our members to help grow and nurture it.
We expect you to strive for excellence, to perform at your very best, and to know and admit when you are unable to meet that expectation. Asking for help is appreciated and understood.
We expect our members to be available and to deal with occasional interruptions to their lifestyle. We expect you to be able to drop what you're doing when alerted to an emergency call for assistance, to respond to the emergency needs of your fellow citizens. We expect our members to be an active part of the organization and regularly attend training and meetings.
It is an honor to be able to serve our friends and neighbors in our small community and we expect that information regarding that service be kept private.
As a member of the Fire Division, we require that you respond to at least 10% of calls for service, participate in at least 36 approved training hours a year, make a reasonable effort to attend Fire Division meetings and have no more than 3 unexcused absences and other certifications and proficiencies.
Job Description/General Duties:
Firefighters respond to structure and wildland fires, vehicle fires and accidents, odor investigations, gas and carbon monoxide leaks, medical assistance, natural disasters, and technical rescue. Our average volunteer fulfills over 115 hours of training (more than 10 hours a month) and responds to over 45 calls annually. Meetings and trainings are held every Monday evening (with some exceptions), so having this time available in your schedule is important. The Fire Division currently responds to around 200 calls a year.
Training is the foundation of Red Lodge Fire Rescue. Our members continually prepare for emergencies of all kinds using state-of-the-art equipment, techniques, and facilities like our new Training Center. We have a robust in-house continuing education program with weekly training opportunities focusing on knowledge, scenarios, specific skills, and RLFR procedures. Generally, new members take part in recruit training over a roughly 6-month period with training 1 to 2 times a week. During this period, you learn the basics needed to respond to calls with our members. We try to make these training sessions work for your schedule and experience. The Fire Division recruit academy will begin ....
We understand that our members need to maintain a life balance, and priorities often shift. We ask that your commitment to RLFR be high on your priority list - usually in the top three. Fire members are not expected to be "on call." However, we do ask that you respond to pages when you are available and to sometimes interrupt your personal life. Calls usually wrap up within a few hours but structure and wildland fires can last several hours to overnight.
Benefits
All of our members receive a uniform and personal protective equipment.
In-house training is free and we often cover the cost of registration, tuition, travel, lodging, and per diem for outside educational opportunities.
Active EMS members receive a monetary stipend for calls, transfers, and standbys. Firefighters are eligible for the state firefighter retirement program.
To show our appreciation for the many hours members put in, they are eligible for our incentives program.
We also have an annual recognition banquet and other family-oriented gatherings.
Additionally, members and their families have access to our gym, our facilities, meals, Peer Support, and the resources of the Red Lodge Fire Rescue Foundation. The foundation provides scholarships to members and their children, and financial support in the form of grants or loans if they experience hardship.
Our members are covered by workers compensation and accident insurance.
