Job Announcement:

The Monterey Fire Department is accepting applications for three positions of Firefighter/EMT. These positions report to the fire chief and will be required to fulfill the duties of a Firefighter/EMT for one tour of a three tour rotation. The positions will be open until filled.
The department operates from a single station, equipped with a ladder truck, engine/tanker, squad and a boat. While a multi-year staffing plan is in progress, the department currently is staffed by a full-time fire chief, deputy fire chief and firefighter/EMT, 14 Per-Diem and 3 resident call/volunteer firefighters. The department also provides mutual aid to nearby communities and serves as the Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) for the towns of Great Barrington and Lee. In 2025, the department responded to approximately 330 incidents including mutual-aid and auto-aid of which 20 were fires (structure and wildland) and 24 motor vehicle accidents. 2026 has been busy with 14 Structure Fires from January 1st to May 28th.
Minimum Qualifications
- 18 Years old & older
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid Motor Vehicle License
- Physically fit
- Must have the ability to successfully complete the following within the probationary period
- Massachusetts EMT-B Certification
- Massachusetts Career Recruit Fire Academy
- Department Recruit Rookie Book / Training

Compensation & Benefits
- Year 1: $62,940
- 9 Month Probationary Period of 40 hours per week
- 48/96 Schedule with Kelly day (52 hours/week average) following successful completion of probationary period
- Year 2: $81,840 base pay / year
- 48/96 Work Schedule with Kelly day (52 hours/week average)
