CERTIFIED/NON-CERTIFIED FIREFIGHTER

EMT-BASIC CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
Valid EMT Certification required for all applicants upon conditional offer of employment.
State of Connecticut EMT-Basic OR National Registry EMT-Basic are acceptable.
Minimum Qualifications (Non-Certified)
All minimum qualifications must be fulfilled upon conditional offer of employment.
- Eighteen (18) years of age
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid CT Driver’s License at the time of a conditional job offer, Class B or 2-Q preferred
- NREMT of State of CT EMT
- *Successful Non-Certified candidates must successfully complete the Connecticut Fire Academy Recruit Firefighter Program. For more information on this program, visit Recruit Firefighter Program (ct.gov).
Minimum Qualifications (Certified)
All minimum qualifications must be fulfilled upon conditional offer of employment.
- Eighteen (18) years of age
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid CT Driver’s License at the time of a conditional job offer, Class B or 2-Q preferred.
- NREMT of State of CT EMT
- Connecticut Fire Academy Recruit Firefighter Certification
- OR
- Presently employed full-time by a career fire department with a minimum of two (2) years of continuous service at the time of a conditional job offer, certified Firefighter 2, Hazardous Materials Operational.
Character Requirements:
Applicant must meet the highest legal and ethical standards. Applicant will undergo a rigorous background investigation before any offer of employment is made. An applicant may be disqualified for poor employment history, recent use of illegal drugs, or previously undetected criminal activity.
Residency:
Applicant must be a resident of the State of Connecticut at the time of appointment and must live within a 20-mile radius of the South Fire District within one (1) year of date of hire.

Military Veterans (5 points)
Examinations:
Written Exam:
Applicants will be subject to a written exam, consisting of 100 multiple choice questions. The written exam is scheduled for Saturday March 30th, 2024.
Oral Exam:
The applicants with the 20 highest scores on the written exam will be invited to participate in an oral interview process.
Chief's Interview:
The applicants with the 10 highest aggregate scores from the written exam and oral interview will be invited to participate in a chief's interview.
Applicants must pass a thorough medical examination which will include drug and alcohol testing, and a criminal background check at the time of a conditional offer of employment.

All experience and qualifications will be verified. Falsification of any information will automatically disqualify applicants from participation in the recruitment and testing process and will result in termination, if hired.
